Drug Awareness Board

Kenya has seen an alarming rise of drugs abuse amongst youths in recent years, which is mainly due to the lack of education that encompasses drug-related issues. The Drugs Awareness Program aims to empower children in Kenya with knowledge of the adverse effects of drug abuse and the benefits of hygiene.

We have identified several key points that are affecting the rate of drugs abuse in Kenya:

  • Drugs and hygiene awareness is not an integrated topic in school

  • Some parents themselves are not aware of the harmful effects of drugs

  • Lack of pastoral care in schools, i.e. the availability for counselling

Kenterprise’s approach has been to develop a series of board games relating to the issues of drugs and hygiene. This will provide school children with an accessible and effective form of learning, as well as the initiative to find out more about these issues themselves. Also we intend to run workshops for students and teachers alike.

We have helped facilitate life skills training at various primary schools since September, reaching out to 946 students. Due to this early success, we have set a target of reaching out to 10,000 pupils in 2014. We are currently also sourcing for sponsorship of the scheme, which will help kickstart the project on a larger scale.
